Nasal Polyps
Nasal polyps are sac-like growths of inflammatory tissue in the nose and sinuses. They can often obstruct the natural drainage pathways of the nose & sinuses resulting in symptoms of chronic sinusitis. The cause of nasal polyps is not fully understood. Nasal polyps are more frequently found in patients with asthma, non-allergic rhinitis, vasculitis, aspirin sensitivity, allergic fungal sinusitis, and some granulomatous diseases. Medical treatments can shrink polyps in some patients and improve their symptoms. Endoscopic sinus surgery improves the quality of life in the vast majority of patients. Although, nasal polyps may regrow in some patients, they can sometimes be medically and/or surgically managed in the office without returning to the operating room.
